PARENT INVOLVEMENTOPEN DOOR POLICY: Parents of enrolled children attending may visit the center at any time during the hours of operation to observe the program without prior approval. Parent-Teacher conferences are initiated by the teachers in the fall and the spring. The fall conference is mainly for the teacher to get to know the child. The spring conference is a teacher's evaluation of the child. Conferences can also be initiated by the parent at any time. Parents are invited to be involved in the center' s program. a. Annual Open House (usually, in the fall) for the purpose of observing the program, clarifying policies, asking questions, and informal discussion. b. Share a special ability, talent or interest. For example; music, photography, vocation information. c. Read a Story to classes, small groups or individuals. d. Assist in the classroom holidays, special events or "lend a hand". Example; the Opening of school, the Costume Parade, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Pageant, Holiday parties. e. Parents/Children and Staff are invited to an annual Parent and Child Night. The program is for fun, food, socialization and education. Program examples include Art Fair, Make-a-Meal, Fun and Fitness, Kids on the Block (Handicapped Education), Exploring Space, Science Fun, and Circus.
Enrollment Visitation: Parents shall visit the center (by appointment) with their child before enrollment: a. to discuss the center's days, hours of operation, fees, license, rooms and area of use by the center and emergency evacuation, b. to discuss policies on releasing children, toilet training, medication, the management of communicable disease, health requirements, parent/staff conferences, parent visitation and involvement in the center, discipline of children, and walking trips, c. to observe the classrooms, center operation and program activities, d. to discuss the child's habits, dietary, and sleep needs, activities behavior and development, e. to obtain a copy of Registration Form, Information to Parents Document,. Health and Communicable Disease Policy, Release Policy, Discipline Policy, Medication Policy, Fees Policy, Emergency Information Form, and Health/ Immunization Form. GOVERNING BODY The Children's Corner is governed by an Advisory Board consisting of members of Bridgewater United Methodist Church and other representatives from the civic, business, education and/or child care communities. At least one third of the membership positions of the board are parents of enrolled children. The board is responsible for approving, reviewing, and monitoring the center's policies and budget and maintaining the center's physical environment. All policies are set by the Board. The board meets at least quarterly during the center's operating year. The center maintains a list of current members, dates and minutes of the meetings. |
