OUR MISSION

The Church has always placed high value on the development of a strong, personal character, in which religious values predominate; a vibrant, caring family life; and a strong sense that the community is an extension of one's family life. The Church has also placed high value on the belief in the basic integrity and worth of every human being. To this end, the teaching and care of children in their early formative years, the nurturing of family relationships, and the enhancement of parents' personal and professional development all fall within the scope of the teaching and pastoral ministry of the church.

The mission of The Children's Corner of Bridgewater United Methodist Church (BUMC) is part of the mission of BUMC itself. In The Children's Corner, BUMC extends its pastoral care and teaching ministry in a special way to the parents and children of the BUMC community. The Children's Corner of BUMC seeks specifically to provide a Christian community in which to nurture and care for children on a daily basis. The Children's Corner of BUMC hopes to provide a fertile context in which each child (and the community of children) and parent (and the community of parents) may develop the foundation for a distinctively Christian way of life.

Within this mission, The Children's Corner of BUMC strives to realize the following goals:

To create an atmosphere of love and understanding in which each child finds acceptance
as a unique person worthy of respect and love.

To provide:

   • experiences that build a good self-image, and help each child to see
himself/herself as a person of worth.

   • a nurturing environment in which your child feels confident and free to
      experiment and grow.

   • opportunities for the children to be involved with the natural world and
to become better stewards of God's creation.

   • healthy conditions for personal growth such as good nutrition, adequate
rest, and a clean and safe physical environment.

   • a learning environment in which teachers maintain consistent discipline.

   • teachers who are good models for your child within an environment of
     love, trust, patience and understanding.

   • enrichment of your child's experiences by providing group participation
     and stimulation.

To help your child:

   • in interpreting experiences in the language of Christian faith.

   • practice a rule of love in all relationships, to use patience and to be
courteous and considerate in their interactions with other children and
     adults.

   • develop a sense of creativity by expanding your child's own imagination,
stimulating your child's thinking and encouraging your child to make choices.

   • develop motor skills appropriate for your child's age.

   • develop mathematical and language skills.

To monitor your child:

   • for any vision or hearing difficulty.

   • for problems in language development, motor control or self-control.

To extend the pastoral and counseling services of BUMC to families of children
who are experiencing any difficulty.
